The Vice-Chancellor, Dr. T. Sasipraba welcomed the invited special guest Dr Kalpana Surendranath Associate Professor and Reader in Genome Engineering, Leader of Genome Engineering Lab, Co-leader Medicines Diagnostics and Disease Modelling Research group, Director of Gene Editors of the Future. She is also a Visiting International Professor at Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai, India. A total of 150 students from the Department of Biotechnology and staff participated in the Lecture Series where Dr. Surendranath discussed various aspects of genome engineering including the CRISPR/Cas9 case studies, how gene editing can potentially alter the course of certain rare diseases and its future aspects in biomedical research. The lecture was followed by a discussion with students of biotechnology.
